How can I get a job at a restaurant with little experience?

I worked at McDonald's for 3 months. i am 18 and I am a college student, a music major. I have been applying to many restaurants locally, but no one seems to want to hire me. I go into the restaurants between 2-4pm dressed professionally, with a pen on hand, and I am friendly to whoever i see. I also call a week later to see if my application has been reviewed. Am i not getting hired because of lack of experience, or, is it just a bad time to find a job?How can I get a job at a restaurant with little experience?
It could be a variety of things. It is most likely because the economy is really bad right now; I've applied to twenty four businesses and have yet to obtain a job. It's very frustrating, I know.

It sounds like you are doing everything you can, and that is all you can do at this point. My suggestion to you is keep being persistent in your job search.

Your lack of experience and the economy are most likely stopping you from getting a job. You can obtain experience by volunteering (you can volunteer at the library, a humane society/animal shelter, zoo, etc.) and by doing odd jobs (such as the ones listed on Craigslist). You can then put these things on your resume, and employers will be more likely to call you (they like to see that you volunteer). Until you get a call back, just keeping applying/checking up on your application and volunteering/doing odd jobs.

Hope I helped, and best of luck!
I use to work at a restaurant, and the way I got hired is because I because good friends with the manager. He would always come over to my table and I would just small talk with him and stuff. Then, when I wanted a job, he interviewed me. He coems up to me and goes "You got the job, I just have to make it look like I'm interviewing you."How can I get a job at a restaurant with little experience?
I think it is just a bad time or you are not visiting the right restaurants. When I was in college, I had no work experience and decided to work at a restaurant. I walked into 5, got interviewed in 3, got two job offers, and accepted one all in a weeks time with no experience. Just keep it up and keep calling or going to those restaurants until they tell you yes or no for sure.
It's hard times for restaurants. If you want to work in the kitchen you'll have an easier time finding a job. Front of the house jobs are tough to find these days. How can I get a job at a restaurant with little experience?
Try wearing a tuxedo.
