I might want to start up a food blog sometime soon, and I am wondering if it considered slander just in case my review of a restaurant (or a single dish of the restaurant) is negative? Is it grounds for getting sued?Is it slander to review a restaurant? (Negatively)?
Well, first off, if something is written (as opposed to spoken) then it's called libel. Slander is only when you speak it. "Defamation" is a general term which can mean either one.
Basically, as long as it's true, then you are allowed to say it, no matter how negative it is. But if you write something that isn't true, then it might be libel. In some jurisdictions the person that sues is required to show that the statement damaged them (e.g. hurt sales) in some way, in other jurisdictions the burden is on you to prove that it did not.
A food blog is generally not going to have many issues. An opinion is not a matter of fact, so you can be very negative about restaurants. Your experience of the service and the way food tastes is subjective, as well. As long as you are truthful about things the restaurant does or things that happened to you, it's not libel. Is it slander to review a restaurant? (Negatively)?
Criticizing means you express your opinion and you can do so negatively or positively Hope I helped:) answer mine: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a>Is it slander to review a restaurant? (Negatively)?
You should! Although be very detailed about what exactly was the reason/taste/smell/sight, you know the usual, of why it's good or bad. You will not get sued, you're freely expressing your opinion(:
