yelp.com ( i dont' work for them) started on the west coast as a business review site. It is now available in more cities.
The 2 guys who have the Car Talk radio show have a list of good mechanics. pbs.org/cartalk
Many of the online "recommendation" sites charge the auto shop to be a member. That is not fair to the consumer.
epinions.com has lots of good reviews.
