My boyfriend and I want to start a restaurant review website..how can we do it?

Hello, now, my boyfriend and I have never gone to culinary school, but LOVE food and LOVE to cook. In fact, we sit and watch the Food Network all the time together..anyhoot..we were trying to think of a website to build, but didn't know what, until we were watching The F Word..FOOD! Him and I also love to go out and try new things, and we always ALWAYS comment on the taste, texture, look of the restaurant, location...whatever. So, do you think this is doable? I think it would be fun, and something we are very much interested in. How to start? We would probably want to incorporate video or picture onto the site as well. Of course, we want to also make money...so how do we do that also? Thanks!!My boyfriend and I want to start a restaurant review website..how can we do it?
There are many ways to start, first and foremost do you want to have a dot com (or .net or whatever), or do you not want to pay for a domain name? After you decide that, and if you decide to go with a dot com (which in all honesty is better if you want to make money off the website) you should look into domain hosting servers. One really good one that has a lot of helpful links and such is godaddy.com. It provides you with your own domain, your own e-mail server and if later on you need it, your own SQL server which is needed for storing passwords and selling merchandise on the web.

My best advice is that if you want to start a website that looks professional and is fully functional, use a program like Adobe Dreamweaver or Microsoft Front Page if you don't like Adobe products. There are MANY programs that help you design websites, but the Adobe suite (photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, Image ready etc..) is your best bet as it has everything you need and has really good tutorials to help you start out. It can be expensive, but if you want a site that is professional than I would go with that.

In terms of making money, you always look into putting a banner or something on your web page that a sponsor can pay you per click or per view, how that works is dependent upon that sponsor. There are also ALOT of people that will pay to put adds on someone's site, and that more views you get to the webpage the more money you make. If you want to go a different route you can sell merchandise through your webpage using the SQL server and such.

Hopefully this information helps, and give it time as Dreamweaver and all else can look VERY overwhelming at first, but it's very easy to learn and easy to use. There are also a lot of books out there that are pretty cheap and can give you a lot of advice.

By the way, it's about $10 to get a domain registered on go daddy. It's very worth it though. My boyfriend and I want to start a restaurant review website..how can we do it?
Check out Yelp.com and chowhound.com for ideas. Think about what you'd do differently. My boyfriend and I want to start a restaurant review website..how can we do it?
As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.

If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.
