Ok I want to launch a website for my local city (average city not to big) .Anyway I want to strongly review our local restaurants but "mostly" bars and grills as we have just as many if not more here.My website is not going to be a typical review site. Its In depth with establishment feel.I'm going to have profiles of each with actual photos etc. But do you think it is proper to "charge" a fee each month I update the establishment.photos, specials, events etc etc.Like a fee of 50$ or something.Im only going to have the top establishments and when this site grows as its the only one I think a few is reasonable. For the exposure but Idk why I think I shouldn't fee. Also the reviews are going to be done by professional writers editors and software designers. What you guys think??? Give me any feedback!!!! Point blankRestaurant review charge?
Reviews are opinions, and as such, are given freely and no restaurant would expect to pay money for you to talk about them.
What you need to think about instead is to open an ADVERTISING site. You would provide the barest details for free, (where it is, the name, phone numbers, and allow for a comment section with star ratings) - and then have a button saying "Is this your restaurant? Feel free to contact us with more information - we can make this a wonderful site for you!".
And your front page would naturally only feature paying customers.
You wouldn't want to charge a MONTHLY fee, though. Generally for this sort of advertising, you want to change a YEARLY fee. It shouldn't be much for a basic package (and have a basic option, that still looks nice!) - with more and more options as the price goes up!
What to do about revenue? Ads. You don't want annoying pop up ads or ANYTHING that could distract from your site, so go with some very basic google banners, etc. They provide a modest revenue to keep the site running while you drum up business.
Consider also having a phrase like "tell the restaurant you came from our site! If they know the advertisement is working, we can keep this place running!"
