It depends on the circumstances and how badly overall it was rated. If a lot of people complained that the place was dirty then I would be concerned. If people complained about the staff - I wouldn't read that much into it. I've been in customer service before and sometimes you just can't please everyone no matter how hard you try. The food - it depends. If the majority of people are saying the food is better elsewhere then I might consider it. I would say on a star rating the place would have to be under 2.5 (out of 5) for me to consider not going there. Can internet reviews become a make it or break situation for restaurants and bars or does no one read them?
i read reviews on restaurants and bars before i go to them but my experience is that those reviews are subjective and places that i love have gotten bad reviews from people on the internet and places that i dont like have got great reviews so I always go and check a place out for myself because you never know what you could be missing out on. people also will sometimes give a place a bad review for strange reasons for example i work at a traditional italian place and i have read bad reviews on our restaurant for not having garlic bread we have a different type of bread that is great go figure, or another example is we will get a bad review if we remove an item from the menu that someone liked they will give us a bad review
