Any reviews of Mohegan Sun Casino?

I am going to Mohegan Sun today, which is a casino located in CT. I was wondering if anyone who has been there could tell me any useful information about it. I have never gambled before, and only plan on doing so a little bit. I want to get something to eat (am going with my boyfriend) Maybe get a drink or two.

Any useful information would be wonderful! I would like to attend the less expensive restaurants.Any reviews of Mohegan Sun Casino?

What's the difference between 'nett' and '++' in pricing?

i'm curious with the actual meanings of the word 'nett' and the symbol '++' whenever i look at prices of food (in restaurants/eaterie reviews), i wonder what their differences are and really appreciate if anyone could give me the right answer, thanks...What's the difference between 'nett' and '++' in pricing?
"nett" means all taxes and surcharges are included in the pricing. "++" means you still need to add certain taxes and/or surcharges to the price indicated. hope it helps.

It has Great Seafood as well as Steaks and Burgers (the Whaler is #1 lb or can be dbld!) The breakfasts are a must as well. Fresh Blueberry Pancakes, Shrimp and Crab Omelets, and Build your own Brkft Tacos. As great as the food is, the tropical atmosphere/decor is a mandatory tourist photo op. They are cheap, super good quality food, great service, always fast and hot. Me and my husband went twice so far, each got a drink and mixed drinks, an appetizer, and two burgers and a side of onion rings and it was only 30 DOLLARS! I'm telling you, it's great! And they give you sooooooo much food it's ridiculous! :)What is the best restaurant in Texas?

Does anyone have information on vacation in Williamsburg Va they would be willing to share? We are staying at the Patrick Henry Square (Blue Green Vacation Timeshare location) in a two bedroom suite in the newer building. I have read very mixed reviews, some not so good. So anyone with information on this establishment would be appreciated also. We would really like to try a good seafood restaurant while we are there, any suggestions? Thanks for any help!We are driving to Williamsburg Virginia for vacation in April. Looking for advice on activities/restaurants?
Take a drive toward Newport there are some good seafood restaurants - there was one I ate at a LONG time ago in Newport News that was actually right under the James River Bridge - great view and Crab Cakes were the best I have ever had. Don't know if it's still there.

When in doubt - stay away from the seafood buffets and ask the locals where they get seafood - I've always found the best food that way.We are driving to Williamsburg Virginia for vacation in April. Looking for advice on activities/restaurants?

  • Suggestions for good Japanese Restaurants in Toronto, ON?

My sis and I are hoping to try out Japanese food for the first time, but we don't know which restaurants are good. Reasonably priced; no more than $20 per person. We're hoping for a buffet place where you serve yourself and choose what you want to eat, like chinese buffet restaurants. Or I'm not sure how the Japanese ones work. Any suggestions/reviews of Japanese restaurants you've been to or you know are great, prices, service, etc? Thanks.Suggestions for good Japanese Restaurants in Toronto, ON?
Sushi Fun in Thornhill is probably the best Japanese restaurant I have ever been to. I refuse to eat any where else. It is AYCE and only 15$ for lunch. 20$ for dinner. Make sure to get the deep fried bananas and some ice cream for dessert!Suggestions for good Japanese Restaurants in Toronto, ON?

Japanese food...you're talking about a multitude of things.

Do you want sushi? Personally, I'm not sure I'd trust a buffet that does sushi (Toronto, if you haven't guessed, isn't exactly a coastal town). I do have a couple places I trust mostly on reputation (they're not cheap).

Bowls of soba noodles...a safe option...same with a well-done miso soup.

Yakitori skewers are a fun and safe introduction.

Some of the more "unapproachable" dishes (that use "the whole animal") are an acquired taste.

Have never had Indian food; can you help me choose?

Our family hasn't had traditional Indian food, just tried samosas. We have many good and well-reviewed Indian restaurants in our city, but we've been reluctant to try, since we would have no clue what to start with - what to order? Would appreciate some advice on some simple things to start with, so we can be introduced to the tastes and cuisine. Thanks for your help.Have never had Indian food; can you help me choose?
some Indian food can be HOT but I prefer milder dishes such as

    chicken biryani

    Tandoori

    Rogan Josh

    chick pea s/dahl

curry beef chicken prawn or pork

and my Indian friend makes delicious 'salad' which is greek natural yogurt with onion, tomatoes %26amp; cucumber salt %26amp; pepper mixed in

this is nice and cool and if the food is a little hot it helps cool the mouth.

I also learned how to make Bajis which is a batter made from chickpea flour/rice flour/cumin/corriander and strips of onion and great with a dip such as mango.

If you are thinking of trying Indian food start at home with a store bought curry sauce (such as Pataks) and try it with some rice and see how you like it.

I also love Parathas these can be bought frozen ready made and you just fry them for a couple of minutes they are great for breakfast and we often have them with cream cheese %26amp; bacon!

Another idea is to find a really good indian restaurant and talk to the chef about what your tastes are and go with his suggestion. You could also ask to try some 'samples' before you order or ask if they do a 'tasting plate a lot of restaurants do this for a small charge and it gives you the chance to try a little bit of everything before ordering your meal.

You could get some easy recipes online too and have a go at home I found the following sites to be very good

    http://indianfood.about.com/

    http://indianfood.about.com/od/breadreci鈥?/a>

    http://forums.egullet.com/index.php?show鈥?/a>
Most Indian places offer a lunch hour buffet, check out the places in your area and go for the buffet!!!!! I'm sure you'll find something you like!!! The buffet is a great way to sample several dishes.....

Tandoori chicken or anything from the Tandoori oven is always a good bet for first timers.......and I've never had an Indian bread that I didn't love!!!!!Have never had Indian food; can you help me choose?
well try to find a buffet, then u can try the different foods...

but u might want to start with mild dishes (the spicyness is usually indicated on the menu)... e.g. chicken tikka masala, naan bread, chappatis (a bit like tortilla wrap bread), channa chaat (chick peas), daal (lentil soup), chicken bhuna, biryani (rice with meat)/pilao (rice sometimes with vegetables) or just plain boiled rice ...these dishes are relatively mild and in my opinion very tasty...

oh and don't forget mango lassi for the drink (a gorgeous milkshaky mango drink - except it's way better than a milkshake!) and u could try laddoo, rice pudding (trust me it's different to english rice pudding, but nice all the same) and maybe gulab jamun, ras gulla or jilebi (traditional sweets - they can be pretty sweet though!)
What ever it is eat the rice with it. It can be really hot and can constipate you.Have never had Indian food; can you help me choose?
Absolutely go for a banquet. Whenever you are trying a new cuisine, you should have a banquet if it's on offer. It's more expensive than a single dish, but it totally worth it to get a more rounded experience. Particularly because in many cultures that's how food is served. It's modernity that has us sitting down to a one pot wonder since we don't have enough time for food prep. It's also healthier to have a variety of dishes at once, so you get a variety of nutrients.

Tell your waiter it's your first time having Indian, and you are really wimpy with chilli. Don't go out until you can afford to spend up, then let the waiter order for you if they don't have a banquet on the menu.

Contrary to popular belief, curry does not mean hot, it means a mixture of spices. That mixture does not have to include chilli. That's the ingredient that clears your sinuses.

You should go right now! I'm traumatised that you haven't done this yet! Boring food=boring life! That's my motto in life :)
Novices to Indian cuisine often like their dishes to be fairly mild, so don't go overboard if they ask you how spicy you want it.

I'd recommend Tikka Masala (usually w/ Chicken), or Saag Panner (spinach and homemade cheese) or Mattar Paneer (peas with cheese). Biryani (a rice dish)is also often pretty mild.

Don't be afraid to ask the server for suggestions, that is part of what they do.
Butter chicken is amazing, so is Tikka Masala. You might like Channa Masala as well (chickpeas in tomato sauce with spices). Very yummy :)

I also agree that you should look for a restaurant with a buffet... that way, you can try a bit of everything.
it looks like you've got alot of meat suggestions here are some nice veggie things to include in your indian experience:

    *Aloo-goobie / a califlower potatoe dish - order mild

*Shahee-paneer / soft cheese or crud in a curried yellow creamy sauce - order mild

*Masala dosa / a crepe like dish with potatoes %26amp; peas seasoned inside served with a yellow sauce - order mild

*Rita / like a light cucmber salad made with yogurt-very nice with other indian foods.

*Idily %26amp; Sambar / a type of dumping served floating in soup - order mild

    * Roti %26amp; Nan / 2 of my favorite breads( flat round)

*Mango Lassie / yummy smoothie like drink

*Ladhu( Ladoo) / a peanutbutter tasting fudge kind of desert

*Sweet Rice / a little like rice pudding only served w/ rosewater

well hope this helps - happy eating!

What are the best, quality restaurants in DC?

    i'm looking for Italian (southern) food . . . Mediterranean . . . or classic American food.

do you know a website that has recent restaurant reviews for the DC area? What are the best, quality restaurants in DC?
I would highly recommend Bambule - mediterranean tapas that are excellent

For American food I would highly recommend Old Ebbitt Grill - it's classic, very popular and, actually, my brother's very favorite restaurant. They are well known for their oysters but everything is very good.

For Italian, Cafe Milano in Gtown is very popular

If your looking for someplace that has more fine dining, dressy, expensive, etc. I would highly recommend both 1789 and Butterfield 9
    http://dc.about.com/od/restaurants/a/bes鈥?/a>

    2006 RAMMY Awards: http://dc.about.com/od/restaurants/a/RAM鈥?/a>

My personal favorite for Southern Italian is not in DC, but a bit west... in Fairfax... and I'm totally fussy and a complete foodie. It's place called The Esposito's on Lee Hwy: http://www.restaurantrow.com/MoreInfo.cf鈥?/a> Take a look at the menu from that site... and know that the owners are Italian from New Jersey. They opened the place about 20 years ago and it's just perfect. This is the most authentic Southern Italian fare since I was a child (I'm 46)

A waiter with a white apron pours your cheap, homemade tasting red regional table wine from a carafe... it's exactly what Uncle Lou brought up from the cellar... the food is real and tastes like Nona made it for Sunday supper... the gravy is Sicilian/Jersey/South Philly all the way.... and there's a guy in black chino's and a white t-shirt behind the bar talking to the regulars. It's something like upscale and neighborhood all wrapped into one... families come... business people come... and you half expect the Mafia to stroll in during appetizers.

Somehow the food is Nona's and the presentation is fine dining. It's just incredible! What are the best, quality restaurants in DC?
For Italian food i'd recommend Anna Maria's on Dupont Cir.

A favorate of several presidents especially JFK, one of his favorates.

for classic american food Old Ebbit Grill... one of the best restaraunts in the U.S.
I love Old Ebbitt Grill. I go there everytime I visit the DC area. 1789 is nice also. For seafood, try Crisfield restaurant in Silver Spring, MD (on Georgia Avenue. Also in Silver Spring is Vicino Ristorante (Italian) -- but this is definitely an old school type of place, not for the sophisticated person.

As far as websites, try chowhound.com. Also, washingtoncitypaper.com.What are the best, quality restaurants in DC?

Fifteen Restaurant in London any good?

Hi, I'm planning on taking a friend visiting London to Fifteen. The reviews are rather mixed, was wondering if anyone here had any experience? Plus, I noticed that you can choose from the normal menu at the italian area or the tasting menu which is very expensive. When I booked online I was not given the option of where to dine, just the "Dining room" can I choose once I get there or is it assumed that I'll take the more expensive option?

plus the street entertainers are free.Fifteen Restaurant in London any good?
you can choose when you get there at least i did and i took the same route as you and booked online just tell a member of the staff when you arrive. And if you like celeb spotting i did see a couple both times i have been plus the staff are excellent i am sure you will have a great timeFifteen Restaurant in London any good?
The tasting menu is excellent. Well worth it for the experience of tasting the very best food at a reasonable price (compared to other quality restaraunts). I would also recommend taking up the wine tasting menu for the extra cost you get a glass with each course that is perfectly matched to the food.

What is your opinion of my food rating website idea?

My friend and I were thinking of making a website that rates burgers in New York City and blogs about it. What do you think of the idea? Would you visit the site to check the ratings of burgers before eating somewhere? Thanks. What is your opinion of my food rating website idea?
I could see the benefit if you rated every menu item on their menus, not just their burgers. Sounds like a lot of work and a lot of eating on your behalf - you better get some elastic waist pants.

Oh and it should be free. Otherwise this won't work at all.

I heard about Tracks inside of Penn Station and was thinking of trying out their clam chowder (I read it got rave reviews from Newsday in 2003). Has anyone been there and how is the chowder? I love clam chowder and will be coming through Penn Station in just over a week around lunchtime (well, just after the lunch hour) and thought about trying it out. Would appreciate any polite/serious comments. Thanks.Restaurant in Penn Station - good or bad?

How can I make sure Google doesn't upload my searches to my Facebook feed?

Ok, I am always seeing things on my friend's Facebook feeds, such as "So and so recently favorited this video on YouTube". Or "So and so reviewed this restaurant on Yelp".

Then, I found that Google can somehow upload your search terms to your Facebook feed.

I'm scared I'm going to accidentally enable this feature or something...It won't do that without asking, right? How can I make sure Google doesn't upload my searches to my Facebook feed?
It's probably an application, nothing will be uploaded to your news feed unless you add the application.

Where are all the hell's kitchen winners now and have their restaurants been successful?

I tried looking this up, but all it gave me was individual hell's kitchen winner names. I have seen all seasons but as far as reviews or critiques of each winner's restaurant nothing is mentioned. Have they been successful? • Feedback on The Berkshire Restaurant?

I love trying new restaurants but I don't like taking chances. I am thinking of going to The Berkshire at Quebec and 28th this evening. It's my husband's birthday so I want to be sure it will be good. I found some decent reviews but wondering if anyone in YA land has been. Thank you.Feedback on The Berkshire Restaurant?

I was just out in Denver visiting friends and we ended up eating several meals there. The food is delicious, the price is right and the atmosphere is very comfortable. I highly recommend it. This person agreed....

Korean barbecue restaurant in Denver, CO?

My brother has a fiance living in Japan and he once went to a Korean Barbecue restaurant in Tokyo that he REALLY loved. His fiance, Misaki, and I are planning on doing something special for his birthday. His birthday is in August, but she can't come until September. When she gets there, she is going to surprise him with a gift. She wanted me to help her and help her find a Korean Barbecue restaurant that measures up to the one in Japan. I have been doing a little research, but, I can't decide which one is best without visiting them personally. If you have any reviews of Korean Barbecue restaurants in Denver, CO please tell me. We have read A LOT of reviews and granted they went from some saying they were the BEST to others the WORST. Wondering if anyone can give their unbiased opinion on food selection (type, taste, price) views from the restaurant, ambiance, atmosphere and anything else you can think of.

tell me some critical reviews of any good fine dine restaurants, about their food, service, atmosphere?

You can get reviews at the Washington Post or Washingtonian magazine. For the more personal opinions, check out the District-Baltimore board on www.chowhound.com (below). tell me some critical reviews of any good fine dine restaurants, about their food, service, atmosphere?
You can find a million reviews and such online in various places.

To get honest reviews and knowing where to go requires your age, what you want to spend, what atmosphere, were you live and all of that. Driving 2 hours after a fine meal kind of screws up the intent.

Many places close in could afford a better experience and be more fine dining.

Narrow down what you are looking for a tad. tell me some critical reviews of any good fine dine restaurants, about their food, service, atmosphere?

I live in Tuscaloosa. There's not a whole lot in the way of decent restaurants. Depalmas downtown is ok. Bayou Seafood is pretty good - try the crawfish poor-boy. Chang's in Northport is our favorite for Chinese. There is no good Mexican, so don't even try. And Mike and Ed's bbq on Greensboro is pretty decent, but they're only open for lunch. Hooligans on University looks dive-y, but the food is actually pretty good.

Other than that it's just a bunch of fast food, bar-and-grill chains, or dirty looking dives. Go to Birmingham to eat :)

Celebs tend to avoid the Hollywood area because they tend to get interrupted by tourists who don't know that you are not supposed to bother them. The exception are some of the clubs that will limit who gets in. As far as finding them, try Beverly Hills restaurants (like The Ivy) and in Studio City. In SC, they don't always do the fancy restaurants, common popular restaurants are just fine. Also hang out at Pinks, especially on a weekday or late at night (don't blink).Where's the best restaurant to eat at in the hollywood area if you are looking for the following:?

Can or should eating at restaurants (eating out, restauranting, dining out, etc.) be considered a hobby?

One of my hobbies is writing restaurant reviews. I hope to turn it into an on-the-side career. In the mean time, I just love dining out, and I'd like to classify it as a hobby.

It makes me fat, but I've just accepted that. Doesn't really bother me! :)Can or should eating at restaurants (eating out, restauranting, dining out, etc.) be considered a hobby?
You could classiffy yourself as a connosiuer of restaurants. I also find it fun to eat out, especcially at formal restaurants. Don't worry about being fat. Firstly, you only get unhealthy when you eat fast food, or other junk. Plus, excercise is the only true way to get in shape and stay in shape. it is also less restrictive, because you can eat anything as long as you get proper nutrition.

Yes, eating out is very fun, and even I would call it a hobby, but it is more accurate to call yourself a connosieur.
Oh a Food Critic?!I've thought about it as well but I dunno,if it would be considered a hobby then more so a careerCan or should eating at restaurants (eating out, restauranting, dining out, etc.) be considered a hobby?
I definately consider dining out a "hobby" or whatever you want to classify it. I love food and I love the experience of a great restaurants. And I like being pointed in the right direction as to where the best places to go is. So I say you have a good idea!
Sure! Can or should eating at restaurants (eating out, restauranting, dining out, etc.) be considered a hobby?
a hobby is defined as something done for pleasure other than an occupation. So I guess eating out could be a hobby, but as soon as you get paid for your reviews its a job. Unless you do alittle eating out on the side.
Sure it's a hobby, but it doesn't have to make you fat. Most every day I go down to the local diner around 12:30 for a bowl of soup and coffee or iced tea (depending on the season), read the paper, talk to the waitresses and the other guys at the counter. I don't go for the food; it's a hobby! Al;so, when I travel on business I always go to the same local restaurants . . . I'm recognized as an "occasional regular" in restaurants 500 miles from home! It's a hobby, definitely!
If you are actually doing it as a possible career (side line of regular), then I might consider it research.

If it is just a hobby, then you should consider buying some Mu-Mu's, or Sumo outfits.
Sure being a foodie is a hobby.
    no
I would say it's a habit, but hey whatever works for you, just stay away from the butter rolls or you'll get really fat!

What would be the percentage of this algebra question?

Lunch Times, a magazine that specializes in lunch-hour restaurants, reported that only 5 percent of a sample of 1,500 who dined at Wallaby's gave the new restaurant a rave review. If you asked all of the food critics in the country what they thought of this restaurant, what is the best estimate of the percentage that would love it?What would be the percentage of this algebra question?
The best point estimate for the population parameter is the statistic for the sample:

    that would be 5%

What should I wear to a nice restaurant if the dress code is business casual?

I am interviewing for an engineering internship on Friday, and the company is having a "get to know you" dinner at a respectable, and nice restaurant in the area on Thursday evening. I am a 19 y/o male for informational purposes. The dress code at the restaurant (according to numerous reviews online) is Business Casual.

    Should I wear:

Black pants, dress shoes, and a light colored shirt?

Black pants, dress shoes, and a dark colored shirt? (should the shirts be solid or can they be striped?)

Black pants, dress shoes, and a polo? I am not very sure on the specifics of business casual at restaurants.

    Is a tie necessary?

I also have a pair of dark grey pants/slacks, which look very elegant. I have a variety of shirts and polos.

Thank you in advance! What should I wear to a nice restaurant if the dress code is business casual?
i think you should go with the black pants, dress shoes, and light colored shirt. a dark one would look too formal. and yeah it can be striped or solid. don't worry too much because i'm sure you will see people who look very under-dressed and people who are over-dressed.What should I wear to a nice restaurant if the dress code is business casual?
I agree with the above that you should go with the you should go with the black pants, dress shoes, and light colored shirt and add a striped or subtle patterned tie.

It sound like in this environment you cant go wrong with a tie and with the tie on it shows the extra attention to detail and a but of personality.

Can the restaurant you wrote a review for contact you?

Some friends and myself went to a new restaurant near a friends house to check out the food. It's in a neighborhood where places come and go, especially this location. I liked the food, but was really turned off by someone working there. So much so, I felt the need to write a review, which is something I never do. The guy was just so obnoxious, that it made me never want to go back. My friends keep telling me that they can contact me and possibly harrass me for the review. Is this true? I don't want the place to do bad, just I wish he would turn it down a notch. Can the restaurant you wrote a review for contact you?
I don't think they will contact you for that reason. It's up to the manager, what to do with the employee. You should not gave your phone no. for any reason. Can the restaurant you wrote a review for contact you?
Yes, ifthey figure out who you are, they may contact you. There is nothing preventing them from doing so:

and writing a negative review about a business is not a good thing to do. If someone there caused a prblem then you should talk to the manager about it, and not be a gutless coward and try to bully them via the Internet. That is not what a review is for.

BTW people are starting to get sued for slander in what the write in online reviews. Can the restaurant you wrote a review for contact you?
Lol no they can not. Did you put up any personal info? Which is not required to do, to write a review. Ignore your friends they must be just playing with ya, because no one can get you for writing a review. I do it all the time.

    Fancy Restaurant Attire?

I was just wondering if anyone knew if my outfit was good enough for a fancy restaurant. A website that reviewed the restaurant says the attire is "dressy."

I plan on wearing dark jeans with a button down shirt. I'm at school and didn't bring anything nice up and I have reservations at this restaurant since its my girlfriend's and my 1 year anniversary.Fancy Restaurant Attire?
Jeans are not dressy, but it was just the review that said "dressy". Just a few weeks ago I went to a French restaurant that the reviewer said was very dressy, but there were several people there in very casual attire, including jeans.

Call the restaurant and ask them. Many expensive restaurants with top rated food really don't enforce a dress code and welcome people in neat jeans. Lots of wealthy people don't have the patience for dressing up!Fancy Restaurant Attire?
    Christnp is completely WRONG.

I'm gathering he doesn't eat in a lot of higher end restaurants (where adults go).

Kid, trust me. Ditch the jeans. Find a tie. Higher end restaurants DO enforce a dress code. You do NOT want to get turned away from a restaurant on your anniversary. Period.

Dressy means NO JEANS. It means slacks, a matching shirt, and at least a tie.

Sorry. I hope you can still go.
no, jeans are not considered dressy.

Has anyone ever heard of the restaurant Bombay Bicycle Club?

about 9 or 10 years ago, i lived in the St. Louis metro area. close to Westport Plaza, there was a american-fusion restaurant called Bombay Bicycle Club. There was at least one other location in Missouri (Springfield) and also a location in Clearwater, FL. There were probably a lot more, but I have eaten at those 3 personally. The locations in Springfield and at Westport closed in close proximity to each other and I didn't live in the Clearwater area, so i don't know exactly when that location closed, but I went back years later and that location no longer existed (a bar occupied the building where it used to be). I am just wondering if anyone else remembers Bombay Bicycle Club or knows why they closed, because I never heard anything but positive reviews about the food. Also, i'm interested in finding out where other locations were because for them to be in MO and FL, it seems like it would have to be a national chain . . .Has anyone ever heard of the restaurant Bombay Bicycle Club?
    This may help:

    http://www.funatbombay.com/
They used to be in southern California years ago and the one that I used to frequent has been closed about 8 years now.

They had a Japanese dish that I had been looking over 30

years for. Yaki Soba was that dish and it brought back memories of of my travels to the Pacific in the late 60s.

They also had Karaoke in the bar.Has anyone ever heard of the restaurant Bombay Bicycle Club?
They used to be a Florida based chain not so great!!!
I am not surprised they closed. The food was less than mediocre and the service was worse.Has anyone ever heard of the restaurant Bombay Bicycle Club?
They went out of business. They closed because of "overpriced medicore food served by untrained and semi trained wait staff.

On the positive side, the wait staff was HOT so I over tipped for lousy food but got to stare at the nice bodies.
I remember them, and they have a website:

    http://www.funatbombay.com/

    It would appear they've reopened.
There use to be one in Champaine Ill, but don't know if its still there, and one in Indiana.
There was one Brookfield, WI about 3-4 years ago but the kept not meeting health codes, etc. One of my friends used to work there and said it was disgusting.
all of the locations in Illinois have closed

i am a complete foodie and have quite a knowledge about different cuisines, their speciality n all...i would love to become a reviewer for some newspaper or a food critic of sorts.what do i need to do for that ?What are the qualities of good food expert or critic (the ones who review restaurants and different cuisnes) ?
well, first you have to be a connosieur in food. That way you can write and say a number of significant things.say what you mean.mean what you say! then you also have to have knowledge in cuisine and cooking so you could relate with food, its preparation,etc.. and you have to know the culture of the different countries so that when you are asked to judge italian, mexican or filipino food, you wouldn't look ignorant. and you have to love what you do so that people will love you! mabuhay(that's a filipino greeting!)What are the qualities of good food expert or critic (the ones who review restaurants and different cuisnes) ?

How would i become an international critic?

I would like to be an international critic who writes reviews of restaurants, tourist attractions, museums, etc for magazines. how would i pursue a career like this? what should i study in college? How would i become an international critic?
Study English for writing (comparative lit would be great) and languages. Then aim to spend your summers interning at places like Lonely Planet or the Ny Times. How would i become an international critic?
Given what you are interested in, I would agree that English is the undedrgraduate major for you. For over thirty years now, English also ranks as the best major for pre-law. English majors score higher on law entrance exams than History or Political Science majors. The reason for this is very simple: at most universities, English classes require the most writing (which sharpens analytic skills as well). Writing is PRACTICE. And practice improves any kind of writing, so the more, the better. Even if you have no interest in literature, major in English unless you can go to a college with a top-level Journalism department. And then work hard to get on the staff of the school paper and/or literary magazine (though usually the English Dept. oversees the latter and can rebuff Journalism majors). It's good to know in advance that these slots can be very competitive in the best programs, so you have to shine to guarantee you nab one.

Here's some research you can do for yourself starting today. Make a list of writers doing what you want to do. Then "Google" them and learn their educational backgrounds. Find out where they went to college and what they majored in there. That may help you chart your course.

I've published a bit in the fields you mention--all but restaurant reviews. None of this pays well unless you've amassed many, many good publishing credits. I'm sorry to report that many writers in your proposed fields make it into the field through connections (many, many people have enough writing skill, so connections help winnow the field). I can't help you with that. I was fortunate to win a gaggle of literary prizes and fellowships that looked good on a r茅sum茅, so I could attach a good cover letter when I wrote "on spec." That's how I compensated for a lack of connections.

I am currently a freelance writer who earns more in other fields (fact-finding, research, etc.), though I still write a few travel articles as a tax deduction (which helps to underwrite the next trip). I enjoy traveling far more when I don't have to take notes, dress well for interviewing people, etc. But that's just me--you might love the life. Writers in the areas you are interested in generally keep their day jobs (in other fields) until they can move from "freelance" to "staff" positions. There are only a handful of staff positions for the thousands of freelancers who want them, but if you're good enough and work hard enough, you might join that rarified group after a long internship in which you gather better and better publishing credits. Good luck!

How do you add a new restaurant that hasn't been listed yet to write a review for? Thank you.?

I would like to help but I am not sure what you are asking. Where do you want to add the restaurant and write a review? Are you trying to add it to a website.....a travel book.......news paper...where? I need more information. Sorry that I could not be of more help.

Can someone help me revise my essay. I had to do a review on a restaurant.?

Today, I reviewed Cheddars in Columbus, Ga. I based my review on the following categories: service, seating, cleanliness, and food. First, I want to begin with the service there. Their service is by far the best in which I have ever seen. I was welcomed with a smile that made me feel right at home. My wait time was roughly 10 - 15 minutes. The second thing I reviewed was the seating. They have the restaurant broken up in to several sections such as, smoking, non-smoking, large groups, and bar areas. I liked the way they did their set-up; therefore, resulting in higher customer satisfaction. The third thing I reviewed was the cleanliness. I paid very close attention to this. Every time I enter Cheddars, it looks like it is their first day in business. I am very impressed with the way they manage to keep the place spotless. The last thing on my list is the food. They have some of the best food in town. I order a steak and some ribs. The meal was very satisfying and enjoyable; therefore, I was craving for more. Overall, I would give this restaurant a 4 out of 5 rating and would always be delighted to eat here day or night. Can someone help me revise my essay. I had to do a review on a restaurant.?

    Attending a fine dining restaurant...?

My boyfriend and I are going to eat at a fine dining restaurant. The only thing is I'm a little worried we may stand out. Our knowlegde of fine dining food is very minor, this will actually be our first time eating somewhere high end. To be honest I can't pronounce alot of things on their menu's.

I'm also a little concerned with my appearence. I have nice dress shirts I can wear with some black dress pants but the only thing is I have tattoos on my arms that will show... Think this would matter?

I've been looking at reviews of this restaurant and this is what one woman had to say "The atmosphere was ok. Even though we kept getting glares from the patrons who were wearing sport jackets and diamond necklaces, as if our presence wasn't approved upon."

Any opionons?Attending a fine dining restaurant...?
I'm a waiter in fine dining in Toronto, but I was born and raised in Ottawa.

As for your concern regarding being a first timer: don't sweat it. Most people in the world don't know 80% of the ingredients and culinary terminology on a fine dining menu. Look at their menu online (assuming they have one online) and see what intrigues you. If you see a dish with a word like "concasse" or "pancetta" - do an internet search for it. The Web is your friend! Besides that, never feel stupid asking the waiter to explain a dish, and tell them you're not familiar with some of the words. Seem genuinely curious, but not sheepish, and the waiter will get a small kick out of "educating" you. Any server worth their salt should be able to guide you though your dining experience, and believe it or not we get some job satisfaction out of making things special for people.

Wear your nicest threads, and don't worry one bit about the tats: most of the service staff probably has ink hidden under their black shirts. Seriously.

And who cares about the other patrons. Be there to enjoy yourself. Don't worry about being judged. After all, you're all paying the same money to be there.

As for the tip: if the service is good (meaning the waiter is friendly and helpful, and seems to have the entire meal organized to arrive in a timely manner, and he tops up you wine and water) then 15% is standard. Twenty if the service is really great, 10% if it's below average but not terrible. Less if the experience is frustratingly poor.

Hope this helps. Have fun! :)
I eat out all the time, i live in Las Vegas, where u can find hundreds of fine, top of the line restaurants. U should order appetizer, then the entree, and finally dessert, if u can afford it a bottle of wine, red if u are eating red meat, and white for seafood. Just act with class, but the most important dont forget having a good time...and a decent tip, 20 % for a good service, 25% for an outstanding service.Attending a fine dining restaurant...?
I am a former chef and worked many years in the hotel business, and now a days there is not the same formality like back in the 40-50-60's when dining out at a fine dining establishment, I worked in my early years at places that still did the "Silver Service", with white gloves and served at the table.

Only on Cruise ships do they even attempt that now, as for dress "LeatherLunch" is right, a nice outfit is fine, I know places in downtown T.O around the theaters and sporting venues that consider themselfs upscale and you should see some of the outfits in those places. Only something really outragous will get you turned away.

As for ordering, it is more simple today, not many places go to the effort of doing a full "french" menu, look for things you like, chicken, fish, or steak ask for the specials (they are a good bet), if you into eating more than one course like soup/salad/app, main and dessert, ask the waiter if they are large or small portions, in most cases it is the latter. This way your not wasting food.

As far as tipping go, 15% is common and as others have said alot depends on the place and service, some still split tips between the entire waiter staff were each waiter has to pay a small amount to the bus staff and some do it for the host/hostess. You make the call, do not be intimidated it is a fun outing and relax and enjoy the night.
    http://carmineristoranteitaliano.dgte.ph try here!!!!!!!!!Attending a fine dining restaurant...?
From someone who is heavily tattooed, I know where you are coming from. Most people would say to ignore the looks, but I understand it can be frustrating/annoying/insulting. If they have a copy of a menu online, you should be all set. The best way to change a stereotype is to prove people wrong. Both of you should give each other a crash course in fine dining lingo. Learn the ways that the food is prepared, look-up pronunciations, and basic table ettiquette. Not only for your self-esteem, but so you don't order something that has been aged for 100 years and cost $2,000. Haha. Lots of high end places don't post the prices or their prices vary. Also, if you have a question on ANYTHING, call the restaurant. It's not like they will know it is you calling and spot you when you eventually show up. I've found that, as long as you act appropriately, dress appropriately... and TIP appropriately... you will be treated likewise. If people stare, just look back and smile. If they keep whispering and staring... flip over your table and show them why tattooed people are so bad! Haha Hope this helped.

P.s. From the review you posted, I would say go somewhere else or stay in and flex your culinary muscles.

Macy's has mystery shoppers! Well company's that are in retail have what they call loss prevention (LP) and that's where security dresses like regular people and catch thieves. You have to apply for one of these companies but usually they hire from the inside. You don't have to have any qualifications to become a mystery shopper. You just need to find the right agency that does mystery shopping.

Give a business a bad review on Yelp. Is it wrong? Usually I'm nice but this place did give pretty bad service. Can you get arrested or sued for giving restaurants a bad review online?
    Joe.

I think this would be applicable to cases where an individual resorts to giving a constantly bad review to a certain establishment on purpose.

On the other hand if you have genuinely experienced a bad service at a certain establishment, then there is nothing stopping you posting a review which gives all the details regardless of whether it is negative or not. Mind you it is always important to ensure you can back up your claims when you are giving a rather negative review. Apart from that I see no problem why you shouldn't if your complaint is truly genuine.
Of course not, although technically you can get sued for almost anything. They will have no basis because you're just giving your opinion. Would all those food critics who give bad reviews to restaurants get arrested too? We still have our freedom of speech.

If you however, flat out lie like that Wendy's-finger-in-the-soup situation, then yes you will get sued or arrested. If you constantly create pseudonyms to give negative online reviews on a particular restaurant, then you may be in trouble too as that is harming the future business of the restaurant. Can you get arrested or sued for giving restaurants a bad review online?
You CAN get sued for about anything.

But that would definitely not qualify as Slander, so they would have almost zero chance of winning.

You are well within your rights to give an honest opinion.

What wouldn't be legal however is to say McDonalds gave you a burger with a mouse in it, when that didn't actually happen.
Arrested no because you have committed no crime. I don't think you would be sued either, but it's not technically impossible either. I don't think a reputable company would want that kind of publicity anyway. Can't you just see that on all the major networks! Can you get arrested or sued for giving restaurants a bad review online?
nope, since it's simply your opinion. and besides that, they don't have any hard evidence of you tampering with their restaurant in any form, so you're clear.
they would create far more bad publicity by suing you than by ignoring you, of course if the chef with all his big knives took it personally..................
as long as you are expressing you opinion they can not win a lawsuit against you.
No and no - if it was your opinion or your experience you cant be sued or arrested

Which sex makes the best chef?

You read restaurant reviews %26amp; it seems many of them are run by male chefs in the kitchen. But the handing down of recipes %26amp; family cooking traditions dictate that mothers %26amp; grandmothers usually teach the female descendants. What's going on here? Which sex is really the best cook?Which sex makes the best chef?
That's a poor question. Do you SERIOUSLY think a Y chromosome (or lack thereof) makes ANY difference in cooking ability. Maybe males have an easier time purchasing a restraunt. Maybe fewer women want to be chefs. Maybe there is a bias in the reviewer. Maybe you haven't read enough reviews. Who knows? Sex makes no difference in cooking ability.
I would say females, i have eaten in a lot of different restaurants, bars etc.. And none of them have even come close to my mums cooking.Which sex makes the best chef?
I have often wondered the same thing.

But I think it doesn't really matter who's what when it comes to cooking.

Both men and women can be great cooks.

But I think the people who love food and love people make the best cooks.

I have never in all my life met someone who knew how to cook delicious food but didn't like food or people.

Every good cook I've ever met has had a genuine love for both.

Out of all the professions out there in the job market I think Chefs take the cake (pun intended) when it comes to graciousness and hospitality.
female...more careWhich sex makes the best chef?
don't be sexist. a woman can do anything a man can do....and since I'ma girl...we probably do it better ;o)
from my experince in the Kitchen men make better chefs'/cooks. I worked in resturants for 5 years and saw mostly men. I will tell you why men make better cooks. women can't or won't work 14 hour shifts and lift 100 to 200 lbs. as well cooking is hot, hard and dirty work, most women don't want to do that
    Obviously an hermaphrodite.
Alright, let's first separate the cooks from the Chefs, and the celebrity Chefs from the ones who support the industry as a whole.

Anybody can be a cook, that's about putting food on the table either for survival, or fun; some are better than others and I have known many in both genders that are really good, and more who are really baaaad!

Celebrity Chefs like the ones mentioned, are a figurehead on the face of a corporation. I have met and worked with many of them and find that largely, though not exclusively, they are in it for the money, and have other people doing most of the legwork for them. It takes a very special breed of person to go into food on that level, and it is not really what I think about at all when discussing Culinary Art.

A working Chef in the restaurant world, whether male or female, is a dedicated and passionate individual who works really hard for the money, but is generally not driven by the money. To learn to cook everything well, takes years of schooling and sacrifice, the ability to give oneself up to grueling hours on ones feet because you have something to say in the food that you lovingly and tirelessly prepare, for an audience that is hard to please and often does not understand what you are trying to accomplish.

Being a Chef means that you are a disciplined person by nature, you are able to multi-task to the nth degree, able to manage people with compassion, and care for their feelings and growth. A willingness to be a teacher to many people who are also struggling to become what you are, those who look to you to set a consist ant standard for them, even when you are sick, sad, tired, or just really busy and should be doing something else.

An artist who is able to deliver a 5 dimensional painting, over and over and over, each time with consistency. It is a person with impeccable integrity, who knows that you can never afford to cut corners on sanitation standards, because your job is to feed people safely. You have to look good in the dining room, despite the fact that you have been schlepping away in a hot and often frenetic environment since before daybreak. Yet you do so with grace and interest in those who have honored you, by coming to eat your food, without whom, many people who are depend ant on you for their livelihood would be out of work.

It is someone with enough math skill to never lose sight of food cost, profitability and the bottom line. Someone who knows the price of every commodity in their head, and has an innate ability to understand the shifting value of goods that are affected by world affairs, mother nature and trends that come and go overnight.

You also have to be prepared to give up your life to your work, often at the expense of your loved ones, for the hours are long and the work is consuming (No pun intended)!

Who can do this? Well, thousands of people do it every day.

I have been in the industry many years and know lots of male and female Chefs, some better at what they do than others, but all very hard working. Early in my career, it was a male dominated profession, but now there are many well respected female Chefs. We are individuals, we are driven by our art, we are humble people who love to nurture.

    (I am a woman).
Chefs are usually men because it is one of the best payed positions, especially in five stars restaurants and hotels. It has not much to do with who is better cook. The new form of discrimination nowadays is that men do not take the most responsible, dangerous and demanding positions, but the best payed ones. There are for example every day more policewomen in many countries because men are less interested in these positions.
i think males are better chefs. men have more patience, and comsentrate more.
How can you choose between Paula Deen, and Bobby Flay?

I've experienced great cooking from both genders. Why does the answer have to be either or.
I don't know that either sex is the better cook. Women are more the traditional cooks in the home because in past years they were home more. Men are the more traditional chefs because they historically presented a more imposing image in the kitchen. Things are changing.
Best cooks = ones who would do it for free. So, women.
I don't know. But would love to donate some time to sample the cooking of the contestants!
it all dependa on there culinary skill not by there gender and i really cant narrow it to a specific sex
    We're comparing apples %26amp; oranges.

There's a huge gap between cook %26amp; chef.

Family cooking is different from public cooking.

Being a chef requires far more creativity %26amp; skill.

That said, either gender can master those skills.

My father insisted that boys should learn to cook.

(My mother also taught me to knit %26amp; crochet)

But I only saw my father cook bacon %26amp; eggs.
In all honesty that depends upon what's being cooked, the preparation, the timing, the cooking technique that's being used and the application of the seasonings being used.

For instance when working with chicken you do not want to add seasonings meant only for lamb chops, you have to know the cooking time boneless versus with bone - in case of baking and or broiling. Taking it from there it's a toss up; in all fairness after what I just said I can't pick which one is better.
Sex and cooking don't mix... very messy...
    males
I think that women because they have that cooking-trait.
big males with a big white hat that chef's wear!
    Men of course -

    Mario Batali

    Dean Ferring

    Masaharu Morimoto

    Gary Picket

    Bobby Flay

    Emeril

    Michael Chiarello

    Shall I keep going?.......
I think it depends on the person. Both women and men can be fantastic. I hate to say it, but my boyfriend is just a naturally better cook. I think it's because he just CARES so much.

i really like Pacinos Italian Restaurant, Very nice place great ambiance, the food is delicious, and the price is affordable. Its not a chain restaurant, I would recommend it. I use to work there and everyday i would sneak some food home. And if u dont like italian food u should try Key W.Kools which is owned by the same person but its more of a steak and seafood place, and the prices are pretty expensive but delish.Your favorite Restaurant in Kissimmee, FL?

  • Topless restaurant in Colorado? Not a night club or bar, if possible.?

I would like to take my best friend to a topless restaurant or maybe just an exotic restaurant with beautiful asian women as waitresses for his birthday. Is there a place like this in COLORADO? I found the Diamond Cabaret online and have read way to may reviews that the dancers are rude and lazy so i'm not taking him there. Any suggestions? This is his last year in Colorado i'd like to give him a nice birthday.Topless restaurant in Colorado? Not a night club or bar, if possible.?
First, Colorado is a big state. I assume you mean Denver metro?

There are a number of topless clubs in the Denver Metro area, but they are not restaurants or night clubs, they are strip clubs. The drinks are pricey and you are paying more for "favors" and exotic dancing than for anything else.

Are you serious about a restaurant? Would you want some woman's tit in your mashed potatoes? I think they pretend to serve steaks at the Diamond Cabaret but mostly they serve "favors". You could take him to Hooters. I don't know about Asian women but they do tend to specialize in sexy waitstaff and crummy food unless you like hot wings.

Rather than look for a restaurant with sexy waitstaff, why not just take him to an upscale restaurant?
