Can you publish a book reviewing restaurants without the restaurants permission?

Thanks for your time in this globalCan you publish a book reviewing restaurants without the restaurants permission?
Yes.

No one can sue you for saying I like the food or I don't like the food. Can you publish a book reviewing restaurants without the restaurants permission?
Interesting question. Personally I'd say yes, as long as you make it very clear that the reviews in the book are your personal opinion and not the result of many people reviewing the restaurant. In other words, the reader must know that the review is of one person and not the average opinion of a group.

There are several books and magazins that publish reviews about restaurants without their knowing and therefore without their permission. The most famous of course is the Michelin guide for fine dining. Everybody wants to earn a star, everybody is happy to be in the book (even a bad review seems to help you if you use it wisely) and nobody knows when they are reviewed, nobody reads the review in advance and nobody has given permission. Can you publish a book reviewing restaurants without the restaurants permission?
Yep. Critics have a tendency to arrive incognito, act like complete tw*ts and then slam every little thing they can in the Saturday paper. Good food guides give a more reasonable synopsis without you knowing who was there. People writing travel/holiday brochures are usually unannounced, but very kind in their comments and people from travel guides like Lonely Planet are on too tight a budget to eat everywhere so they just get you to fill out a questionnaire.
As long as you find a publisher there is no problem.
